GLWSC Leader Posts First-Ever TED Talk on Water Safety

Great Lakes, USA Always looking for more ways to reach more people with drowning prevention best practices, the Great Lakes Water Safety Consortium (GLWSC) is proud to have recorded its first TED Talk.

In the first of its kind, GLWSC Founder Jamie Racklyeft shared his Great Lakes rip current survival story, how the community started, and our Top 10 Tips for staying safe around the water.

“I have always loved the concise TED Talk format and set a goal years ago to give one myself someday,” said Racklyeft. “Being accepted by TEDxMSU was a thrill and preparing for and giving the talk was the experience of a lifetime.”

Expressing gratitude to the two brave strangers who saved him at the last second back in 2012, Jamie also shares how he coped with survivor guilt after learning that a 16-year-old boy drowned in the same rip less than an hour after he was saved.
