Contests

It’s Contest Season 2024!

Again this year, you can enter a water safety poster, video, or both!

For our sixth annual Great Lakes Middle School Water Safety Contest, we are challenging students to create a poster and/or video that helps keep their fellow students with one of our water safety best practices: Steer Clear of the Pier.

More specifically, Steer Clear of the Pier – 4 Seasons of Safety:

  • Spring: Hypothermia

  • Summer: Rip Rap

  • Fall: High Waves/Currents (washing machine effect)

  • Winter: Slippery conditions

  • Watch your step (wet, slippery, icy)

  • Know what’s below (rip rap, sandbars, etc.)

  • Hyperthermia/Air temps versus water temps

  • Have kids look up local ordinances for their location with regard to the rules of their pier closings, fines, etc.

  • Do they have a state park? What are their rules?

  • Do they have a National Park? What are their rules?

Get creative! See entries from past years with themes of ‘Flip, Float & Follow,’ ‘Wear Your Lifejacket,’ ‘Swim Near a Watchful Adult,’ ‘Know Before You Go,’ and ‘Learn to Swim’ below (think you can do better?).

Enter by midnight, April 12, 2024 and you could win a $50 Amazon gift card if your poster or video is chosen!
